A few of you realize that I deem Google's PageRank bogus and distracting. But here's a question for you, as one way to support your Google PageRank theory. And a chance to discuss the merit of the ten digits. Suppose Yahoo had a Page Rank and meter, that displayed #1 to #20, would you use it, or use Google's? Many of you say the PR thing is important right? Okay, I'll play along for a minute and suppose "what if". What if PR rank is a good tool. Okay, let's say my site is a 5 and your site is a 5 on Google's ten digit ranking. Are our sites the equal? If Yahoo's 20 digit system were implemented, my site may be a 6, and your site a 5. Certainly even on Google's ten digit system, two sites of equal ranking can't be equivilent within all the data stored. If rankiing matters, wouldn't it be better to nail-it-down more precise, with the hypothetical Yahoo 20 digit system? If you stuck with the less detailed 10 digit system, what would be your reasoning? I think this kind of comparison is very relevant to determining whether a one to ten rank is worthwhile. Seems to me if ranking is pertinent, that a 1 to 100 range would be far superior. If PR is important to anybody, wouldn't it be critical to know if they were on the lowest end of Google's PR 6 (nearly 5) versus possibly being at the highest end of PR 6 (nearly 7)?
I think there already is a 1 to 100 (at least) range for pagerank. What we see with pagerank-checkers is an approximation to a round number. And it's better this way. I have a PR 4, not a PR4.2034. As for this google-yahoo comparison, I wouldn't trade a google PR5 with a Yahoo PR15 (on a 1-20 scale), because i think yahoo is worthless. But that's just me, maybe other people would.
I think PR now has less value and when it comes to ranking it has no effect. Don't need to bother yourself about PR. The most important thing that you need to do is getting better ranking in Search engine.
i think most of people will still stick with google PR. dont forget that the no. of people who use google is far much more than those who use yahoo. There would have many people who dont care about yahoo result but concentrate on google result.
Geez... Finally someone replied. I was serious with the post, and not messing with people's heads. I agree with you, but still am interested about what kind of range would be best, whether with Google or another. I agree on the number of people who use Google. My stats show it as predominant. Although, the total volume of people to my site from the other sources combined, exceeds Google. But if I have to "tweak" my page ideally for a single engine - it's Google. I've done that for a few years. The surprise for me, since I didn't even pay attention to Yahoo for months, was that whatever I was doing toward the Google side of things, enabled me to come up even higher on Yahoo, Ask and MSNs pages. Personally, I like searching with Google myself.
