Googlebot vs Googlebot-Mobile

Hi guys

Im trying to see what the difference is with Googlebot and Googlebot-mobile using the user agent switcher on firefox. However with both bots im seeing normal pages cached as ...normal pages?

Shouldn't Googlebot-mobile return a slimmer version of the site or at least a more compacted version?

 

googlebot-mobile would let the server know it is a wap enabled device, same as some browsers can allow the server to know if they can accept gzip versions of content etc.
You would need to do more than just change the useragent.

 

so changing the user agent to googlebot-mobile on firefox through my pc is pretty much useless?

 

Yes you need to make the changes there, only then it will be displayed properly.
