Googlebot does not crawl my index pages (incl. index.html) anymore

    Hey guys

It's been terrible 2 weeks since my glorious days with page 1 keyword rankings have been ended by a google slap.
My site's still indexed (site:www.domain.com results are there) buy my top10 keyword rankings are gone, and the index page rankings as well.
I removed a link which could have caused the filter and immediately filled a reinclusion-request. But nothing good happened so far.

Since that happened, I'm monitoring every single http request from googlebot.
In fact, the googlebot does crawl, but not the index pages, just the blog pages which are located at /blog
I didn't stop link building (even got some high PR niche links) or posting blog-posts, but the googlebot just doesn't want to re-crawl my index pages including index.html..

Could a filter cause the googlebot not to re-visit the index pages?
What could be the reason for such symptoms?

Sounds like a penalty. Make sure your site meets Googles criteria and it will go away. You should also make sure your robots file isn't preventing those pages from being crawled.

ok. fyi. I'm back in the game with the old rankings!
    what I changed:

    1. removed 1 follow'ed outgoing link on the front page (which mostly caused this 2 weeks penalty)
    2. removed duplicate img alt tags (every image has now the same alt tag, even they are linked on different pages)

Sometimes rankings can drop without a penalty - especially if it's a new site? You often see sites fluctuating between high positions and being dropped out of the listings when the domain is quite new.
