Google Will Now Consider DMCA Request to penalize websites

Yesterday, Google announced an addition of a new signal which can de-rank websites with duplicate content (No, I am not talking about panda, its related to DMCA).

    How this works?
Google has been getting requests from various copywriters(since years) to de-rank the websites that have copied their content, and rank above them. Finally, they have accepted the requests from millions of original copywriters and have included a signal that considers DMCA claims to rank a website in Google.

    How this gonna affect you?
If your blog/ website has copied a content, and if the original author claims the content at DMCA, Google will consider that claim and can de-rank your website in search engine. Google has also stated that, the website will not be de-indexed but only de-ranked.

However, Google has not given any clarification on how the webmaster would be made aware when their website is claimed for copying content

That's quite a great and moral thing to do. Though it would be great that the complainer interacts first with the owner of the website, or the owner should receive a message from google or smth.

I saw this the other day. On the one hand it's well intended, but what if you have a great authority site and your competitor files a bunch of fake DMCA requests on you?

Yeah, Google has yet to make a comment on this. It's a big question for webmasters, as to would how they would know if someone files a complain against them?

The DMCA request for penalizing is to be taken seriously i think, but this seems so much unlike Google, so i am not sure if this might be a true story. It is, i think its the step in right direction. This way the first content sites will be able to ask for first ranking rather then the clones that are often making it to the top places.
