When I do a site:mydomain search it shows 1,500 indexed pages

when i do a site*.mydomain search it show 150 indexed pages.

Sub domain show in both results, and I can't see a difference cause all sections are indexed.

Can some explain how the wildcard entry in this search query works?

Yeah that page is pretty useful.

Yeah I agree and i don't intend to use is for indexing, I'm just curious what it actually omits.
