Using the Google Webmaster Tools, I entered 50 URL's to be removed back on June 4th., and they still haven't been removed. Does anyone know how long it takes for the URL's to be removed from Google's index? It says that the tool is "automatic".

It seems to take a bit longer than it used to. I've noticed that it takes less time if you submit one of your own pages than if you submit a page that does not belong to you (for instance a proxy/hijacked version of your page).

if those urls are yours an you need them to removed asap, you should provide them some proved that those are yours. just like when you submit a reinclusion request.

    it's not automatically as well

Well, yes the pages are mine. I inadvertently ended up having two versions of these 50 pages in question (duplicate content to Google) one version ended in .htm and other 50 pages ended in .html.

I took down the 50 that ended in .html a couple of months ago; but I didn't realize that Google kept them in their index anyhow. After recently signing up for the Google Webmaster Tools thingy, I saw there that the .html version of all 50 pages were still in their index. So, I did the "automatic" URL thing on the 50 pages and they still say the status is "Pending".

My domain has been under a penalty and obviously this is the reason as I only do white hat SEO. etc. and nothing else is wrong. My home page has been only on middle of page 3 of Google for the main keyword phrase; but now some Google data centers are showing that it is going to climb to middle page 2. I think once the extra set of these 50 pages finally do get removed from the Google index that my home page will finally get it's page 1 rankings. My page was re-indexed on June 8th.; and Google says the pages will be removed "the next time your page is reindexed"; but this hasn't happened?

MSN has had my home page anywhere from #4 to #6 for this industry leading keyword for many months now. Ask has it at #7, so I gotta believe that my page should rank at least on page 1 of Google once the dup. penalty is removed. Of course only would Google misconstrue these as being duplicate content.....

you should do a 301 redirect to the correct pages.....so you don't end up with a lot of 404 errors..

It takes a lot of time.
You might have to wait even for several months.

Actually I have removed several URLs lately and have never waited more than a few days, a week at max. But I did this as soon as the Tool went live, and most probably there where not as many requests as now.

Well, its been one week now since I entered the URL's to be removed and they're still in a pending mode.

My gripe with Google on this removal tool is this: they say that it is "Automatic". Why don't they just tell the truth and tell everyone that it could be several weeks before the URL's are actually removed. Just be honest about it. Eventually at the next major Google update these would be removed anyhow, so this "automatic" removal tool to me is *USELESS*!:D:D
