Google Webmaster Tools Question

    Hi everyone,

I haven't been using Google Webmaster tools for very long, and I'm not experienced with the tools BUT I have a question.

In STATISTICS > TOP SEARCH QUERIES the tool states the following:

    Query Position
    free forum hosting - 7
    forum hosting - 15
    (as well as others)

However, although it states the position of 7 & 15 for those queries I cannot find my site in the search results for those queries on google.com or .co.uk

Am I missing something? Why does it 7 & 15 if I am not in those positions?

    Thanks everyone.

It sometimes seems that Webmaster tools gives the wrong position information (and sometimes it does), but if you have a dig around you will find it is on the most part pretty accurate.
Just remember that the information given on the top 20 queries is just that.. "The top 20 queries" Not only web search queries but also image queries, mobile image queries, and mobile device queries. There is also location to take into account. So you have to take all these variables in to account when trying to decipher webmaster tools top search queries. ;)
For location you can use a tool like this that gives your SERP (web search only) position in 38 different locations.. Webmaster tools will only show you the top position. unless you use the drop down menu (see "All searches - All locations) to refine your results.
It is also a snapshot in time, so although you may have been at that position.. (in that type of search.. when searching from that location) when the snapshot was taken, you may not be in that position today.

    Hope that helps,
    Cheers
    James
