does anybody have used google webmaster? There is "link to your site" tab on the left. what is that for? I try to enter some address that give link to my site. but it keep saying "We do not know of any links to this URL."
Links to your site shows which external sites link to your site. You can see which site linked to which page etc. Much more accurate than using site:yoursite.com in google
If it doesn't show any links to your site it means either that your site and backlinks are new and Google doesn't know about them, or simply that your registration with Webmaster Tools is new and it hasn't updated yet.
Where did you add your site link? To Google submit? It really depends on the number of links to your site. Normally indexing takes 1 day-1 month depending on your niche.
Google's WMT is not a real-time tool. The various screens get updated on various schedules... some every few days, some weekly it seems, some every two to three weeks, etc. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason behind the frequencies. You should also note that even when they begin displaying data for external links to URLs on your site, the list of inbound links contain only a sample of the inbound links. It's not ALL inbound links they know about. Same goes for the LINK: operator. It too only shows a sample. WMT generally shows a bigger sample of inbound links than LINK:.
