Google has always been saying this. This is good for comment spammers because now there'll be less competition.
It's pretty tough for even Google to tell the difference between a real comment and a comment left for linking purposes. As long as you have a natural portfolio of links don't lose sleep over this.
haha! comments are way too ineffective anyway... use them to redirect to a high pr point that directs to your site not directly to your site... ahh ppl analyse the competition you'll see....
well, hope google can really do something to kick those spammers, i've to delete those spammer comments everyday, and they are unbelivable a lot.
Oh please there is no way they are going to be able to crack down on thousands of people who are doing this. Google needs to get real.
Think about it. If they have the ability to ADD value for those spam posts, they have the ability to NOT add value for them. Simple matter of flagging and not giving credit. They easily have the means for that.
If you leave a comment that has value and furthers the discussion on a blog post, I think it will still have value. It's those doggone automated comments that say something like "Good post. I'll be visiting often." that will lose their effectiveness. What a pain in the neck those are for bloggers!
If they are going to do that they may also be going to do the same to forum sig files and profile links ? or at least devalue them a lot. It would explain all the posts about rankings dropping form people who do not have a diverse link profile for their site.
Goggle may warn about this - but really how can they police what is a true comment and what is spam. Backlinks are important and lets face be honest how many of us have left comments not cause we give a crap but because we would like a link on a specific site>
We have to appreciate this step taken by Google , At least we'll not get 100's of daily spam comments to moderate !
I read some where that comment spamming may start to hurt serps. This would be bad. Imagine going back to the site and asking for your link to be removed.
Imagine having to go to hundreds of sites for the first time and asking them to remove the links your competitor put there to try and hurt your SERP. That's why it won't happen. Cheers James
A big percentage of my backlinks is from blog commenting. Signature links are not dead. I rank 2nd for the keyword I have in my sig. Triphp is my only backlinks source for that page.
I guess we should just keep a healthy 'comments', I mean just keep your thoughts on the discussion and don't just settle on backlinking.
