For a site I run I just switched over to google analytics and while I have felt it was really getting a lot of google traffic compared to other search engines I couldn't believe my eyes: google : 95% yahoo: 2% search: 1% msn: 1% I get over 95% of my search engine traffic from google. I doubt google is THAT big compared to the others - so my question to you - what conclusions can I make from it? My own guess: I never cared much for SEO (or should I say, I honestly don't know much about it), the site is old (created 1999) and I guess has a good "rep" ( PR 7 ) so maybe that makes it pretty important in google? I have also worked hard on it last 6 months = lots of new articles and content - maybe google values seeing new content being added (that's just a really wild guess) For another site: created in sept 2006 - not at all the same amount of traffic, however search engine traffic is like this: I get 76% from msn, 12% search, 10% yahoo and not even 1% from google. Maybe it's so obvious for all you guys -but for me - I mean I can't understand me doing things much differently for the two sites. Or does PR/ "site rep" means so much in google? Or are there maybe any other conslusions I can make? Thanks and hoping you will enlighten me And I hope to learn some SEO from thin forum amongst other sources since I have a lot of site ideas popping out of my head right now...
Don't doubt it - nearly all my traffic across my 6 main sites comes from G. Yahoo and MSN traffic is rarer than hen's teeth. G is becoming the 'Hoover' or 'Sellotape' of the search engine industry - the name synonymous with doing a web search. In fact a lot of people don't even say search - they say 'Google it'. Sheer marketing genius. It's a nice word too - Google - kind of trips off the tongue in a nice, unlaboured way. It has a certain pleasing symmetry to the eye too.
Yeah, Google usually brings in the most traffic for most of my sites - although there are some sites where Yahoo or MSN bring more... Google definitely loves fresh content - and having a PR7 page is very good - PageRank is very important in ranking high on Google. Google also considers many "old" sites to be authority sites... - Hannes Johnson
Here's the best conclusion of all: the folks who use your site are Google users, whereas the kind of folks who use the other SEs are not interested in your site's topic.
Google always has more traffic. I know yahoo is suppose to be right thier in page views but most traffic comes from google. Maybe people who use yahoo click the advertising on top of search results more than pages listed. Only time any site i have gets more traffic from msn or yahoo is if google reranked site or is not showing site in results.
