That's very true, and the way I see it, its not going to change for a long time, as Google unlike Yahoo and MSN is not cluttered and therefore people will always use google to search for the stuff they want.

I disagree. I find Google to be more cluttered with sites that only contain links to other sites on top of the rankings (scraper sites, I think they are called).

I see a lot more of my traffic coming from MSN and they also crawl a lot more often. I was just studying my stats for another reason and noticed that trend across several of my sites (I didn't do a complete survey). It was a huge difference in both categories. I was shocked as I tend to concentrate more on Google but not anymore...

I personally tend to search with Google as it is right there in the toolbar but often I'm not happy with the results of my search and then move on to something else (usually Yahoo or MSN).

MSN tend to crawl a lot less than Google. The only sites of mine where MSN crawls more than Google are sites that have a problem (where I haven't redirected the non-www to the www version/ other canonical issues). Matt Cutts has said that the latest Google update will address some canonical issues. Any site fixed in that update (phase 3) may well find the Googlebot loves them again.

Yes, I have to agree, Google does crawl a lot more often than MSN. I know this by observing the google sitemaps, where crawls are done, it seems, every day.
My guess is MSN crawls about once a week. I can see this because I often change the titles of my sites, so when I go to check where traffic is coming from, I can see the new titles listed on MSN.

    cheers

I have a fairly new site that gets thousands of crawls each month from MSN but only a few hundred from Google.

Web Gazelle, have you found the reason why Googlebot's ignoring you?

Google seems to index my site better, and MSN doesn't, letting me get around 1500 links from google monthly, but 20-30 from MSN...

AWStats is what I use and I am not to sure why Googlebot is only doing a few hundred crawls a month. Accept when there is a big update. I had around 2000 crawls with the last big update.

I don't pay attention to which SE crawls me more, although if I had to guess on the spot, I would say it's Google. But....

My sites rank higher in MSN than Google but I get more traffic from Google. Am I the only one who thinks that's weird?

So I would say overall, Google is better. MSN is definitely easier to optimize for though. What I do is just try and keep them both happy. If I try to keep Google happy, MSN seems equally if not more happy.

No, I dont think that it is weird you get more traffic from Google, even though you are ranked higher in MSN. If it is true Google gets a lot more people using their search engines than MSN does, then your site can still get a lot more traffic from Google than MSN.

How do your sites do in Yahoo?

    cheers

Actually, it sucks in yahoo. I get very little traffic from them at all. Some days none.

Before jagger I had 55% traffic from Google and 25% MSN and 7% yahoo and the rest from where ever. Now Google is 20%

After jagger I fell basically off the Google map and have no idea why. I use no tricky tricks at all, I have plenty of one way links in-bound. I am thinking their duplicate filter was turned up but don't know.
I don't think links mean hardly anything at all anymore.
Google common knowledge was get many many incoming links and have good ranks, assuming your site is clean and some what optimized. BULL, I now see post jagger with tons of sites above me with 12 links total and no optmization at all.
I think it is just the luck of the draw with Google now.

MSN on the other hand is MUCH more relevant IMO and one can put in a little work for the page you want ranked, ie get links, clean code, optimize it and actually be rewarded for for your hard work by seeing your page on page 3 then 2 and then page 1. Its a good feeling for those that work hard on their websites.

On the opposite end of the spectrum you now have post jagger Google search: You work hard on your site, get PR, links, etc because thats what the common knowledge was and look for your site under your keywords and it's no-where to be found while there are 4 page websites with 123links.com sign-up buttons on the homepage, 6 backlinks and barely relevant results.

My reason for saying MSN is more relevant? My logs tell the tale - I have NEVER in all my days as a site owner seen results showing hits from so deep in the results. Where I had Google hits that were from 1-10 or 11-20 I am now seeing tons of hits showing searchers coming to the site from 41-50 and 51-60.
Searchers should not have to dig this deep to find something relevant to their search.

Google, is still #1 in the sector overall but their MAIN search product is now #2 behind #1 MSN with #3 Yahoo bring up the rear. IMHO

Kudos to MSN for the better!

Interesting.. I have had to search deeper in Google lately to find relevant sites. Maybe the days of Google being the search king, are coming to an end.

For the few hits I get from the mighty Google, they often come from pages 141 and beyond. But am getting visitors from Google images.
Doing fine with MSN, and it seems when I really optimize for a keyword phrase, I get a higher ranking in MSN. But with Google, it doesn't seem to matter what I do. And when I check which competitor sites are getting the top rankings, I am clicking on sites which simply contain more links to other sites - there like another search engine or directory.

So who knows; I just build the webpages in a way that makes sense to me. I never have been good at conforming to any system.

    cheers from BC
