I was tweaking my Google Toolbar and didn't even know that these buttons existed, but apparently they've been available for a while. Google readily admits that they're in the testing mode, but I'm curious if anyone ever actually uses them. According to Google, you can also give a "thumbs down" on search results pages ... seems like there'd be a lot of interest in that lately Does anyone use them? Do you think they'll ever matter? Thanks.
Nope. Who even uses the toolbar? Just a few webmasters and SEOs. Any average user doesn't even know what the toolbar is, much less would you find them voting for sites.
Thanks fryman. Actually I know a lot of people outside webmasters and SEOs who use the toolbar, mainly for searching and the popup blocker - I was merely curious. Also, I thought if a lot of webmasters and SEOs do use the toolbar, it might be a good way to flood Google with "Vote against this page" votes on the current SERP ...
I use it all the time against my competitors and their results drop like a rock. I also click the smily guy at least 500 times when I wake up in the morning to start my day. I'm #1 for every single keyword and Google sends me checks in the mail almost every day.
Almost everyday huh? Funny, Google only cuts checks once a month. How does it affect your competitors when Google states it's in the "test mode"? Are you having fun or just forget your meds today?
I sure hope they don't matter... it would only take a few days for someone to hack it and find a way to give false clicks
right, google will enable them at some point..for a while until internet will be full of bots making false clicks and google will have to find something else, it will happen the same like with the PR but with the pigeons on their side, google shouldn't worry
I'm personally developing my own 3rd party pigeon solution but I'm having problems with what to do with the poo.
Many people use the toolbars. I've seen average users with even 3 of them. When asked, they don't know how toolbars got there and, of course, they don't exactly understand what they're for. They just start typing in first "gap" they find. I think the "faces" thing is just another entertainment for webmasters, as pr is. my two cents.
It doesn't really matters if it is going to be benificial to webmasters or not. But when a webmaster sees an oppurtunity of voting for his site he will surely click on the smiley face. (And that also not Once But 100 Times).
