It's like every thug algo they use, risk to innocent bystanders.

I totally agree with that. A great strategy to sleep well at night and better long term gains.

    I also like that strategy.

Great, agree + get some enticing free-bees on your blog that help out everybody.

I doubt it. As time progresses Google seems to be holding more cards to their chest. You'll know how real it is when your drip line of traffic disappears

    Cheers,

It's just a pity that innocent sites have been hit.
I have NEVER EVER sold a link and got penalised. It made me take a couple of links down to 2 of my other related sites "just in case".I worked damned hard to get the site where it is using total whitehat and this is the reward.
I agree the link buyers/sellers should be penalised if thats what Google wants but until there is a foolproof way of doing it............

There are sites that blatently sell links "for traffic" that have not been touched i.e."your site here"....click through and it tells you how much!!!!!!!!!!!!
Google seems to have missed a vast majority of them. Most of the ones I have seen in also spend on Adwords but of course there is no connection.

Your site wasn't penalized, but your backlinks probably were. The way pagerank works that is the most likely cause.

I wish I could agree.I had over 3000 pages de-indexed and at this moment (and for about the last 2 weeks) am being smartpriced. Most of my inner pages have dropped from pr4 to zero. Now I am just waiting for the site to completely dissapear from the index.
In the meantime I will just keep plugging away, adding new content etc etc just like I have always done.
It really is heartbreaking to put so much work into a site just to see it being dropped on from a great height for no apparent reason.
I know I lost a small percentage of links from Myspace but NOTHING to warrant what is happening to it now.
It's a good job I took note of all the good people on here when I first started (including yourself :) ) and "didn't put all my eggs in one basket".

It's very important to realize that Google is the largest publisher of propaganda that currently exists.

Google spits out more non-sensical propaganda than

    USA Iran Russia China Venezuela

If buying and selling links could hurt websites then we would only need to buy links to competitors websites and they would all disappear.

Do not believe shrill scare tactics!!!!!!!!!

A responsible person would never have posted this... but the OP is known to love to start arguments and controversy

    Remember: Don't Believe The Hype!!!!!!

The penalization has been towards the sites selling links, not buying them. The reason sites that buy links are getting hurt is because their juice for the selling site is cut off, or sites that bought 0 links are just getting less juice from their backlinks who did, or their backlinks backlinks :D

It was just a massive chain reaction in my eyes, maybe Google should run for US goverment position, atleast THEY can make money! :D

Does the PR hit have a knock-on effect on AdWords?

One of my pals who was selling links and got knocked down from PR6 to PR3 about a month ago emailed me to say his Google traffic was way down last week. He still seems to be listed in Google, however, so I don't know exactly what happened to his site. Anyway, he's ditched TLA, and I too plan to try direct selling of these 125x125 buttons from next month.

I think the TLA market is going to collapse - they are still listing sites that have been penalised with the old high PR price. Has anyone noticed their TLA customers quitting?

The market won't die, it will go underground and actually make things worse I'm assuming.

Here's more about it from Raven SEO.

I agree that the market will just go underground. I think sites like TLA and PPP will continue to suffer. It's a dangerous business to advertise so freely.

TLA probably is taking a temporary hit but they'll do just fine. They're just changing the way they market their business, which is really all Google is asking them to do. Sell the links or banners as advertising, not PageRank.

If you're an existing TLA publisher, you will already have received some correspondence related to this.

They are also diversifying with the purchase of AuctionAds and the creation of a related program.

Oddly enough they are making a start in to the area of politics.

They are now working with municipalities here in the US to help them get online and Google will be indexing deeper parts of their databases.

They also moved into Washington DC and set up a lobbying office.. so they can pay off the politicians ....like all the other large companies

I forgot they own Youtube.com which recently hosted the US presidential debates....

I guess that means their in a few politicians pockets already.....

Brin or Page for president probably is not too far off....

    Moving into State municipalities

Michael Bloomburg Mayor of NYC is a successful businessman...

Gates has been pushed to run

Brin or Page for prez just cannot be too far outside the spectrumm

probably will take another decade or so but there will be people pushing with the correlation they run the largest company and at a huge profit ...so they can run the country......

I move to Canada or Mexico then.....

Geez the only things missing on Matt's face is a scar, dark shades and a big fat mafiosa cigar. It blows me away the fear blackhatters have. Why would the they pipe down when Matt walked in? Why did Matt show up? He, he...

The cat and mouse will always play games. The question is who's smarter, Tom or Jerry :D
