Is anyone able to help me please ?
I am new to ad-words and have just set up a suite of campaigns for an online retail site. I've refined my campaigns over the first few days amd am averaging about 5.5% click through on all campaigns (key campaigns are 8-9%) so I think that's quite good ?

But my sales conversion rate is really poor, and although early days I am a bit concerned about revenue generated vs cost of advertising. Am going through normal routes to eliminate frauduilent clicks but was wondering whether anyone could offer advice on the typical customer profile for a start up (ideally online retail) - for example, does a customer land on a new site, tend to browse/consider for a period of time then re-visit etc. If so how long does it normally take etc

ANY info would be gratefully received at the moment !
    Many thanks
    Em

Have you put in place conversion tracking? if not, then do it. and cut out the non converting expensive stuff straight away. Then gradually over time work them back in.

are you broad matching or phrase and exact matching? you need to get around this. Also make sure that you are initially only advertising on search, not netework or content.

Glad to have been of help. Sometimes we need to look at the basics. Many people try to run before they walk, and this can be VERY expensive in Adwords.

I am glad that you have managed to get a grip on adwords, and had the intelligence to ask the question instead of doin as many do and say 'adwords are crap, they are too expensive'.

Today I got a call from a client who I have been working with for a while. He now totally understands adwords, and where he was spending some £2-3,000 a month, this month he has only spent £300 ish, and he is overjoyed with the conversion he is getting.

    Fakie-Store,

one thing Google never tell you about is that new campaigns attract a lot of initial traffic from competitors. Its not click fraud, just curiosity.

Your campaign should settle down. But in the meantime check out the IP addresses in your analytics package.

    Hi Fakes

Its' very difficult to come out with something that will provide you instant success. Mainly because, everyday some guy come up with something better so as to beat the system.

Most of us are basically novices in the area - yet we write about it. Sometimes you wonder when you read about a new technique, why you didn't think about it.

So the best thing is to read anything you can get your hands upon and constantly practice... you will soon be surprised at yourself. But as someone said here.. don't run before you learn to walk and don't make this your sole source of income.

I can give you two links some of my articles (let me warn you, they were targetted towards newbies, with the intention to sell products.. but the info may prove useful)
