lol no. I stopped spending time wondering about Google awhile back. I just keep building and let the SE's do what they want.

The minute I start to care, Google will screw me anyway. :D

Get it? I "get" good rankings and want to keep them. Google is the monster of all search engines and MSN is making steady progress. I watch them both like a hawk.

I think if everyone worked on backlinks , seo , and nice conten they woundnt have to worry about the pr ,

You can still have great traffic and revenue with a zero pr on the bar .

Like others have said google is always adjusting the pr on there backend,

For many sites it's NOT important that the main page has the highest PR.
A site with 1000 pages PR 6 and a home page PR4 does a lot better than 1000 pages PR4 and a home page PR6.

Invariably, the home page has the highest page rank.

It does not seem to be the case if opening page is a splash page.

That would be a pretty unusual site, but even so, so what? My point was simply that when people say "my site is PR6" it's because that's easier than saying "my /index.html" is PR6 and they certainly do NOT mean that every page is a PR6.

It's just an exaggerated example to get the point across. It's however a fact that the majority of the sites have a higher PR on the main page then the average PR of all other pages.

That was not your point. Your point was this and I quote:

...and I was trying to explain to you that when they consider it "important" it's simply because they have no clue how things work.
