Wow... I went from 113 to 1,410... Never seen such a jump. Wonder how this will affect PR and traffic?
I agree entirely that they're all fine - if they weren't my SERP positions would be tumbling. I'm just curious as to how few 'resource', 'links','directory' pages are showing up in this backlink update compared to what were 'visible' last update. Mick
Interesting experiment which seems to bear out that 'links' pages are not being displayed in backlinks this update (the four random sites I checked from your experiment showed your 'Newsgroup Contributors' page but not your 'Links' page in their backlinks). As I said in an earlier post I don't believe there is a penalty - just Google is not showing them in the backlinks. Mick
Yesterday and today, my backlinks have been increasing on all sites, in increments they have increased a few times. I am waiting to see what happens over the next couple of days as it seems we can see the process happening this time rather than just seeing the results when they are done. So some of the new backlinks showing my get discarded before the process is complete and there are probably more to be added. It will be hard to put a date on this update as I believe we are seeing it happen over a few days. The fat lady isn't on her feet yet and is still thinking about which song she will sing.
It's really baffling that in my case almost all relevant BLs are not showing. Most are forum sigs that are PR0 and PR1
Well it's a case of wait and see anyway - there isn't anything solid yet so I guess we are all just filling the time waiting to see how it pans out. There isn't much point speculating.
Someone mentioned about new BL's not included - had a look at my BL's and none of the newer ones are not listed, so it appears that it's more of a change from Google rather than an update. Like Dominic said, theres not much point speculating, but I can't see the increase really affecting PR simply because these sites are PR1/2 rather than high PR sites.
it wouldn't affect PR (or placement) at all. the PR and placement were NOT just determined by visible links; all of these links used to be there, and they used to count, you just couldn't find them with a links: search.
Very interesting! I just confirmed your findings on three of the pages. It is also interesting that the link from the lower PR page is showing, but not the link from the higher PR page.
It appears on some datacenters, http://216.239.53.99 for one, backlinks are returning to what had been reported previously. Am interesting kettle of fish, is it not? Wonder what this means? 11:50 - Now you see them now you don't. Backlinks have nearly all reverted back to Friday nights version. Next thing I expect to see little green men landing. Shannon
Google has never shown all the links it knows about with the link: search, and I don't believe that they are going to start now. If as I suspect, this is just a different way to selecting which of the links it shows, then of course its not going to affect PR unless you have actually added more IBLs to your site. In confirmation of this idea, so far in this backlinks update no one seems to have had a PR change for unknown reasons or drastic changes in the serps.
I lost BLs everywhere, then some recovered only to disappear again. All were stable BLs (some .edu and authority sites). Fryman... welcome.
Now it's showing the "garbage" links again. Maybe there's a party at Google and they're all drunk right now
Looks like Google is trying to confuse webmasters & SEO's They are making it more difficult to look at comeptitor's backlinks.
