There is a difference between Google Crawl Rate and SERP going roller coaster. Google crawls the web all the time but SERPs don't drop or rise all the time. They depend on Google updates. When, how and which are not the subject of this thread.
It's happened to me today. pages with serps of 1, 6 and 19 have vanished. They're still showing as indexed but this may be the last snapshot. After reading this thread it looks as though most peoples pages bounced back so I guess I just sit tight for now.
Actually i have been going through a lot of drops in most of my sites specially the important ones and they was dropping from top 3 ranking to pages ranging from 2 to 5, so i hope they will recover soon.
I'm in the same position right now. I have a site that's been on the first page in google for months now and now it's gone from the serps completely, but it's still indexed and almost indexed daily.
Same goes for one of my sites. It was on page 1 of several Google SERPs, but now is not even showing up even though it is still indexed. This happened to two of my other sites about 3 weeks ago and then they bounced back. Hope this other one does soon...
I see the PR intact but SERPs are changing for many of my client sites. Some of my sites consistently ranked in the top page for last 4 years for highly competitive terms and today I can not even find the sites. I never did any blackhat tricks for these sites. I wonder what is happening with Google.
A huge ammount of sites are having this issue atm. Google is flipping things upside down. A positive message is that I'm slowly seeing my traffic getting back up.
no change in pr. You know for webmaster PR is physical enthusisam while serps is mental enthusisam. PR and SERPS both are important. Without SERPS PR is not important. I have seen sites having pr 2 or less but alexa ranking within 25000.
Mine has been down since the 14th. I lost about 50% of my traffic, which in turn has caused me to lose about 50% of my revenue. I am still not seeing it come back up and we are still indexed and crawled regularly. I hope this gets corrected very soon!
I think you should review your content and link backs. Google may have discounted some links or content needs to be optimized (as competition increases). thank you
It feels better (not good) to know that I am not the only one lost 80% of traffic and adsense revenue in one site
There are many factors that can lead to a drop. Sometimes it's just a matter of how long you can get away with something, and once they've found it you're gone. Not necessarily a sitewide update like "florida". If you start seeing tons of these threads popping up, its a possibility however.
Things are back now, my domain is old and ranking good on first page for my targeted term. You are true by saying that "Sometimes it's just a matter of how long you can get away with something...". Many sites still rank good even after using black hat techniques or some thing tricky. Thank you
