I've been noticing the same +/- 30 swing on groups of keywords, it's even hitting sites that have had zero link building. Some keywords are commercial and others are not, so there doesn't seem to be any link to why or what is effected. One thing i do know though, i run a big forum that mainly consists of non-tech savvy people so typical end users of search. The comments coming from them are "Google is fricken hopeless". They are calling it a "one hit wonder" because if you find a good site, and search the keywords again tomorrow you will never find it again.
well to me that looks like a tacit admission from Google groups that there is something going on with regards to the way Google is looking at links. it would also seem to match what might be happening on the 5 datacenters still showing the "new" data ? or experimental, different, call it what you will. according to this tool http://www.seocritique.com/datacentertool/ from this location, these data centers 216.239.59.99 216.239.59.147 64.233.161.18 64.233.169.19 66.102.1.44 216.239.59.17 are all currently showing our superior seo page at #8 for seo services. amusing though that is, it's not right, that page is not strong enough for that, nor should it be showing anyway in the way the site has been constructed with various pages aimed at various terms. up until now its been perfectly predictable in which pages show for which terms. so it's either a set of data that has ours (and other sites monitored) in a "broken" condition, links missing from the link matrix, or whatever.. ..or it could be a new set of data using new or different settings that theyre experimenting with. the interesting thing is that we have some huge rises in position, on all the much tougher searches on this data, and some heavy drops too from long held "easy" number one positions. its really quite fascinating.
When did you move up to the #20's for "SEO". It was long before these recent changes wasn't it? What's odd is my site won't drop from the #10's, it hangs around there like a bad smell. Not only have i not promoted the site in over 6 months i've actually removed links (about 20k) and it still sits there. One i "am" noticing a very frequent +/- 30 bounce on is "SEO Forum" one minute i'm in #4 above DP and the next anywhere in the 20's or 30's.
no have never reached 20's for SEO yet. 38 highest thus far. is it different sets of data or just your site disappearing and reappearing?
Well i have you #21 searching through my Carolina US proxy, i've dropped to #16. Let me know if you want me to PM you the proxy URL so you can check. It's other sites also, not all of the results are switching but others are besides just my URL. Edit: Check on Hidemyass.com it shows you at #21 also.
lol. the plot thickens. and the main domain too, its been mostly missing from results the last week or so.
better work on quality content and generate subscribers, bookmarks. I hate google sometimes... so unstable.
Agree that on page optimization is a must do. And getting backlinks the white hat way. I have a few sites that are ranking in the top three positions of google SERPs for my chosen keywords I have not noticed any fluctuations I wonder for the keywords you are optimized for are the top performing positions in flux as well?
OK you can stop spamming now. First, google groups doesn't confirm Jack. There is one post with a person speculating.... Second you pulled the old link bait and switch, where you don't link us to google groups but instead to a page on your site with the link on it. Poor form. Next time perhaps you can post something better than wild speculation and spam.
hey sorry you feel like that. you'll notice there's a question mark on the google groups confirm..? that's how I and the guy who tipped me to it read it. Ok "linkbuilding hit" is possibly speculation, but I read that they were expecting big movement on UK sites over the weekend, (and it wasnt just on the UK it was everywhere) re "bait and switch" a) i wanted the link taken in context with the post, and b) like everyone doesn't link to their own blog posts in here? are you kidding? the first time ever I do it, and in the public interest, despite countless opportunities passed, you're whining.
Hi Sweet. Have a look at the sites. Are they anything to do with niche? i.e very specific sites rather than general? Such as a site that is perphaps brand specific for example selling for example sneakers?
THat was a nasty comment. It was a bit opportunistic but not a fair attack. Anyway There has been an update on the Algo in a major way in my arrogant oppinion. This update was tested on Thursday / Friday. The update has been moderated to a percentage of what it is capable of. In my once again arrogance there are two fresh algos. This is based on about 10 sites Size. Bigger is better. SItes with a LOT of content plus diverse content have topped very competitive ($4.00 a click) keywords. The site I base this on is about 7 months old. 5 scripts on one site. Dedicted hosting, silk slippers etc. Second one not sure yet and rather fire my mouth off I will keep looking. What I think here is two (or more likely more) algos added, that are measuring the inbound links onece again. It may be as simple as where the links are placed on the page.
Regarding the big rankings shift over the weekend, Matt Cutts confirmed my fears and said this on a WMW thread. "I don't consider those rankings indicative of anything coming in the future. Some data went into the index without all of our quality signals incorporated, and it should be mostly back to normal and continuing to get back to normal over the course of the day." So things will settle down over the next few days, if they haven't already.
They shit themselves with information overload, but then I slapped them silly and they came to their senses.
