What was Google thinking? To be honest, I preferred the old search.

Time will tell if Google made the right decision on this. I personally don't want to see everybody's bandwidth skyrocketing.

That is exactly the facts and nothing more. people need to realise that Google is out to make money like the rest of us and they will do whatever they need to do to make money.. They could care less about us unless we are making them money...That is the bottom line...They are running a business not a self help orginization.

Screw it! I have already emailed all of the contributers to my blog and told them to start sending me all of their multimedia crap so that I can start embedding it into my blog.
If you can't beat 'em...may as well play the game.

All of this might be more beneficial to the Net community at large were it not for the fact that probably 98% of all that Web 2.0 content is CRAP.

it will decrease your ranking . if you are getting on 2# page , media results will push you to page 3 or 4. most of the sites will loose rankings

It's funny that google now considers videos to be very important when the world is not using high speed internet. How are you going to download videos on a 56k internet connection?

    That is a great point.

Video is great, but I think Google is taking it a bit too far.

    This is very interesting indeed.
When there was a move over from Cassettes to CD's Sony lost their monopoly as it gave smaller competitors a chance to take over before Sony could regain their monopoly. Perhaps the same will happen here?
Ie it will give smaller SEO's a chance to compete with the big boys.
Also I'd guess it will take Google a while to fine tune their spam controls (more) for Video+Image search, perhaps helping all SEOd sites.

On the BBC website they state:

Potentially, this isn't a great change -- just you automatically get a full search of all result types rather than having to select Images, Maps and so on and search individually as you do now.

Have been reading comments and discussions on the google universal search results. Here are some observations:

    (a) Images, Videos, Sound files in the search results will ruin the scene not only for the seller but also for the buyer. Sellers will cleverly disguise marketing campaigns in these file formats. How will google take care of this? No automated system can be developed to check such cases. Manual scanning will be necessary to find such attempts in audio, video and image files. You cannot write a program to view a video file and decide what category it falls under.

    (b) How will google handle video and audio files in relation to age of the viewer? Just to give you an example, a website related to ladies high heel shoes could have a video that is rated R or even be down right erotic.

    (c) Different countries have different social traditions, video and audio and even images will need to consider this.

    (d) For the buyer, who wants to buy a car, understanding how the car was first invented 100 years ago (was it?) or how the oil in the car saves the environment, will be a pain.

Google will back out on this and make the necessary changes.

Just keep your ears and eyes open.
    Thanks
    Kaijewels

I know google bought youtube but this is not the way to promote it. Making people imbed videos in the hopes we all use youtube to do it with. The quality in youtube is not there. I hope google gets back it's senses.

A quick note here, the traffic on some of our websites went down the drain until a few days back. We dropped out of almost all key words, and the first page of google search was smeared with ebay, bizrate, shopping etc for those keywords.

However, there is a positive change now and traffic is slowly climbing and words being gradually handed back to our websites.

Let's hope that this is googlesense.
    Thanks
    Kaijewels.
