Google UK has a logo of British nurse Florence Nightingale on its opening screen, to commemorate her birthday. She was and maybe still is regarded as a heroine in Britain, as she overcame prejudice against female nurses during the Crimean war of 1853-1856 to tend the British wounded, who were being neglected by the army's medical service, which was male-dominated. As far as I'm aware Google is the only organisation - business or government -in the UK to pay tribute to her in this way. Just thought I'd mention it, as I recall that some forum members from the US have commented on which events Google celebrates and doesn't celebrate.
I just read about her on Wikipedia, very interesting. I always heard the term of her name used in the US but never understood until now.
