This one's from askdavetaylor.com via TW ... Take a look at this page http://www.askthebuilder.com/AsphaltBlacktop.shtml and you'll see that Google are now encouraging advertisers to join their network with the ability to advertise directly on a site. It's just a beta right now For months now we've been hearing how many publishers have seen their revenue sliding because of negative site targeting, but if this feature was implemented it would go a long way towards stabilising revenue for the longterm ... in my opinion. Roll this one out Google!
So the ads in the rectangular square are directly been placed by the advertisers themself and not been generated by G's algo?
No there's still an algorithm. But you've been able to target a Website for some time now. The algo, then selects between regular CPC ads and the targeted ads (CPM based). This link simply makes it easier to target a Website.
Yes. I tried to use Adwords to get more members to my political forum with no luck and I was able to run a campaign targetted at the sites where I wanted my ads to appear. Unfortunately, as a college student, I nearly reached my very minute budget in one day and had to end the campaign.
Next time, manually set your campaign daily budget much lower. The defaults provided by Google are a good way of burning a hole in your pocket very quickly.
I don't like it. If an advertiser is on my site and wants to advertise on it, I want them to come directly to me. I don't want to split my earnings to Google if an advertiser found my site directly.
I certainly wouldn't like it if they started showing traffic/click thru stats about my site to advertisers... Toonces51
If people couldn't measure impressions and click throughs no one would do CPM advertising. Adwords users will see a your site's estimated traffic as a range. For example, if you look at digitalpoint.com in your Adwords account it shows a range of 100k-500k estimated impressions per day. If you actually ran a CPM on DP you would see the exact number of impressions and clicks during the time period when your campaign was running.
I understand the need for impressions and CTR stats for CPM advertising, I just wouldn't be thrilled with Google providing detailed data for my sites--that's information that I want to provide potential customers with. I wasn't aware that Google gave ranges of traffic like that for advertisers--it's been a while since I've managed an AdWords account, and the last time I did, we weren't running any content ads. Giving ranges wouldn't bug me--when I read the article I had visions of Google saying 'This site received 637 visits and 1 click in the last day' or something like that--that would bug me a bit. Probably not enough to stop AdSense, of course...
I doubt they will take things to that level. The only time people will see exact figures will be when they run a paid campaign on your site. Even then, unless their ad is being displayed 100% of the time they won't know all your stats...just the stats from when their ad was running.
