Google Traffic Flatlining

Has anyone ever had one of their sites, which has consistently ranked well in Google for a couple of years, just appear to have their rankings dropped for a week or so before bouncing back? If so have you worked out anyway to having your rankings restored.

In my case my site is about 4 years old with Google being the source of about 80% of my site's traffic, and has consistently ranked well in Google for the last three and a half years, but for no apparent reason of late it seems it rankings have been coming and going:

This same thing happened to me back in April of 2007, but after about a week my sites bounced back and didn't have a problem with its rankings until now. On this occasion it seems that the rankings keep coming and going, as you can see from the image above. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar and if you had any solutions to the problem?

    My dear Friend

You are not the only first person who is facing this problem but all are having such experience even my site is 9 years old and still the results are continuously fluctuating. Now as per my experience of 8 years i think that google is giving eveyone chance to come up so that no one hates google and constantly concentrate on it.

As per research this is the main trick of google for fluctuating results. When every one get chance to appear top then no one will hate google. though 1st day my keyword stand 1st position second day 3rd postion 5th day 2nd postion and 7th day nowhere then 8th day again 1st position and so on it never stands first for even a week.

Cool Mate and Enjoy your day

I can appreciate that Google's result fluctuate, but there is a difference between "fluctuate" and being "completely dropped" from the SERPs over the space of a couple of hours, then miraculously having your rankings in the SERPs return a few days later...

Does anyone know the cause of such "flat lining" cases? Does anyone know of any prominent SEO bloggers that have discussed the issue?

I've observed this happening with my sites, which are much younger than yours. I had no idea that this sort of thing would happen to established sites that receive the level of traffic you're getting. Strange.

I also want to learn more about this.
