Google traffic dropped. Why?

    Hello,

The traffic on my web site dropped from a few thousands daily uniques to hundred daily uniques. There is nothing changed on the server side except automatically added quality content which was also being added regularly! (it is really the quality content so please do not question its quality).

The traffic was increasing regularly and naturally from the search engine traffic coming from google. Suddenly google stopped sending traffic. Is it a known penalty from google? How can i solve this? I dont care if it will go like this for a few weeks but i expect it to be fixed at the end..

the traffic that are you getting from Google depends entirely on how many people are searching for that certain word on that day.

Is your site new? Sometimes, new sites tend to fluctuate a lot in the search results.

The site is not new. Here are some statistics:

Daily uniques (2 weeks ago): ~5000
    Daily uniques (last week): ~300
    PR: 4
    Alexa Rank: 150080
    Webarchive age: Nov 19, 2007

So this is totaly unnormal. Until last week, the traffic pattern is totally normal. (I have some authority sites, so i know what is a normal traffic pattern.) Every week the traffic was increasing in addition to content since google was sending a few hundred more unique visitors every week.

Basically i am building backlinks from directly related forum web sites and do not try to be greedy. Also try to change backlink texts.

I dont know? Maybe someone reported my site to Google. May be i was missing some authority links and google suspected and gave me a penalty. In order to solve the problem i added a backlink from one of my thrustworty sites today.

I hope the problem will be solved because that was the site which has a huge potential and was the core of my web business plan for the next few years.

As far as i remember, google dance only increses site traffic (not unique visitors reported on google analytics) while pagerank is being updated. This is the opposite problem and unrelated as far as i know.

Have you looked to see if you were hit by the -30 or -950 penalties?

If only Google has a site like googleslaps.com or something. IT would be easier for all of us to check.

    How can i check them?

By the way, one more statistics. The site has 70.000 indexed pages on google. I was not expecting any penalty.

I agree. But i leanred NOT to expect NOT evil things such as NOT controlling the behavior of webmasters from Google years ago.

It happens to most websites. You don't need to worry about it...just concentrate on improving your site and you'll get the traffic again.

It happened to me but site was relatively newer than the one you mentioned. Traffic went, came back, went, came back, stopped for a month and came back. I'd keep on building links. It sounds like it is some sort of penalty. Have you noticed a huge increase or decrease in indexed pages?

In the last week or so Google rankings have jumped around a lot. This was most likely due to an algorithm update. So I guess your site probably got hit bad by this algorithm change. It hit my work website, but most of our rankings have now recovered. Some keywords are still jumping around though.

just don't panic. It doesn't mean that you have done anything wrong. Give it some time and relax a bit. Of course it is very depressing but at some point it will hit us all. goodluck
