Hey when a company gets a trademark for their name, for example, Google, would that prevent people from buying domain names like:
    g-o-o-g-l-e.com ?

    OR

    googlerankings.com

Any name meant to bear a resemblance or that could possibly give the idea that the site was affiliated with google would be under trademark protection.

If it contains the name of another company, there's possible lawsuits to be filed.

imo, googlerankings should be fine, (Don't sue me if I'm wrong though!). But, you will have trouble with g-o-o-g-l-e.com or even google.co.uk (if it were available)
