Google Toolbar voting buttons

Has anybody seen any effect of using the voting buttons on the Google toolbar .... any positive effect, that is.

If yes, then does it help if you vote for your own websites? Or is this considered as spam?

I click on that one now and then, not necessarily on my pages, though I admit I have clicked on them too (just once or twice). Not sure what is the effect, but all it takes is 1sec. Anyway, it intrigued me for a long time, as well.

You mean the backend functionality was disabled? At least the frontend on my Google Toolbar works.

I think it was one of the test-ish things Google added then sorta changed their mind about, and never actually used, I don't think it actually stores any votes or anything any more.

Yea, disabled on the backend. Someone 'in the know' informed of that somewhere. May have been GG at that other 'forum'

I don't think it ever made it out of the "Google labs" stage.

They will kick you out if you click your own buttons! It's basically a system to vote for '2005 Best Looking Website Awards'.

You can also leave rep comments but some webmasters started crying so Google took it down...

    (end BS mode)

You could get some friends to vote on a 'forgotten' website of yours and see if it effects SERPs and or crawling frequency. Would be a nice test if you have such a website covered in dust lying around.

I doubt they would allow such a abusable feature to have any implication to their serps.
