article i found today here great for those of us trying to sell books via amazon i don't think *sigh* carn't find the option on my google toolbar so assume there is a toolbar update ?
It is not a good feature at all (for webmasters)... To stop it happening on your site, you can use this... http://www.threadwatch.org/node/1562
But isn't that what it is all about? Controlling the users experience? Anyway, how many people actually use IE? Those that do are already controlled zombies anyway...
I think the only way to fight this and spyware stealing webmasters earning is to fight and create awereness, A good resource would be a website for webmasters with a script(s) to detect revenue stealing spyware and toolbars like this, the code would then either "protect" against revenue stealing and/or inform the user about their condition and point them in a direction to clean their computer
I believe that the toolbar updates automatically. Edit: Oh, actually the function is currently only in a beta version of the toolbar. http://toolbar.google.com/T3/index CNET had a nice article on it. They go into how Microsoft tried to do something similar to this before and didn't get away with it. http://news.com.com/Google+landgrab+raises+online+ire/2100-1032_3-5582792.html?tag=st.prev
Hello? Go have a look at your logs mate! I show more than 90% IE6... Firefox may well be growing (25,000,000?) but they've a very long way to go before they overtake IE... Just because most people using the interweb aren't as savvy as you nice folk doesn't make them zombies... FFS - most people have it bundled in with their M$ OS!
<intended for the leaker that rated my post> If you are gonna leave a negative reputation for a post like this, at least have the balls to leave your name, and some type of comment. Lame.. Very lame.
1. I was being facetious. 2. I left out the word "by", meaning "controlled by zombies." The implication was not that you are a zombie if you use IE, but that many are controlled by them, ie., bots, spyware, zombies, whatever you want to call them. -man I still cannot believe I got a bad rep mark for that.. Sheesh.. TGIF!!!
80% of the people use IE n that says it all... __________________ Online Directory | Advertising | Business | Computing | Healthcare | Human Resources | Industry | Money |Shipping and Transportation |Telecommunications
Very interesting article on how Googles new "AutoLink" feature will cost webmasters to loose traffic and revenue.... http://www.iceteks.com/articles.php/googleautolinks/1
It's a wake up call for shoddy sites and webmasters. It's easy to circumvent autolink by running the information as graphic elements. Havent we done this for years with email to beat the hoovers..... A site with an address should have a map! Thinking that in these times a bookbuying punter will even conscider backordering is oldfashioned. Come on when I order books I have three major shops open not only do I compare price also buy where it's available. When I shop I don't use G I use compare engines.... Alexa had the link feature since it's inceptipn so what is new... nothing. As a webmaster one should know ones own field inside out, thus it will always easy to beat generalists in their own game. It will at least improve all theses pages and sites that have simply jumped on a bandwaggon without the intent to provide any usable content and hopefully starve these off funding and make them disapear. So nothing to worry about or is it for you? Expat
There are a few javascripts floating around that prevent this from hapening on a per-site basis. There are also almost 5 threads on this now Josh
It will only add links to text which is currently unlinked. Wrap any text it auto-links with the <a> tag (no href attribute needed), and it will ignore it.
see the link SEbasic posted above if it bothers you -- several methods for defeating the autolink feature.
