The global economic crisis is having it effect on Google as well and it is closing down many of it services or stopping further development works. Its really very strange from part of google to leave a project in between. Wonder what will be the next service to shut down May be Orkut..though it wont but as far as earning money is concerned i think google isn't earning anything from Orkut either..
After the sad news of Google Notebook shutting down, I spent over 3 hours moving all my data from Google Notebook to Evernote. R.I.P. Google Notebook.
They closed "Unpopular" services. Closing of those services doesn't affect much on their business. Google will not be worried about the services they are making money from... Google search, Youtube, Gmail, Adwords...etc
exactly, why would google still run google video when they have youtube the money maker as for notebook it obviously wasn't very popular not enough at least.
I actually never heard of Google Notebook till now... I don't think any of these services are important.

same here... The writing was on the wall for Google Video, I can't even understand how it lasted this long since the post-Youtube acquisition. They must have been making a huge loss while hosting that service.
Buddy Blogger, Adsense, GMail, Google search, Adwords...these will never shut down at least...but all other initiatives which haven't generated any ROI nor it seems to do soon will eventually shut down as a result of heat generated by economy slowdown.
