Google to rebrand Blogger, Picasa

Google is rebranding Blogger and Picasa in a move to push its newly launched social media product Google+, reports Mashable.

The move is said to be a part of Google initiative to unify its brands under the Google branding ahead of the public launch of Google+ in late July. Google's popular blogging platform is expected to be rebranded as Google Blog and the photo sharing service will be called Google Photos.

Both the services were originally not developed by Google. The search engine giant purchased Blogger in 2003 and Picasa was acquired in 2004. YouTube, that Google bought in November 2006, is believed to remain unaffected, but several other Google products are expected be rebranded.

What's your say? Is it good or should they leave as it is?

I personally don't like seeing google move into content more and more as I fear they will increasingly favor their own content in search results.

They are already doing it. I don't remember but there are some companies that have gone to the court on the same matter.

Ha, bringing 'um back to life eh?
Well I guess they are hardly dead.. they sure as hell have a lot more users than any of my websites,
then again, unlike Google, I don't own the most powerful marketing tool in the world.

They already have been favouring their own content and generally people do to!
I talked about this a long time ago, webmasters didn't seem that threatened then

my SEO competitor is google and wikki, what should I do?

Seems like Google is treading on more and more toes,
but what can web masters do?

I don't think it would affect anything. It's just a name.

This won't happen and is the anti-thesis of what Google believes in. Google believes in search no matter the source. All their search results are generated from outside sources, not within.

These are perceived things by companies like those who come to DP. Mostly garbage web sites or those who tried black hat methods. Ignore such people.

Search engines still suck. That is why we use social media so much. Our friends act as a better filter. The name changes just take away the uniqueness of where the original software came from.

I have also heard about this news, I think Google is doing right thing to connect all its product with one website and let people switch between google's product easily, Google has really done a big website make over of decades.

Kiss Google Goodbye and optimize for other search engines!
I seriously doubt Bing will favor Google in their rankings.
Google is trying to get it's "dirty" hands in pretty much everything, just like they want take over the entire internet. Just look at the latest news, Google+. Google hates the success FB has and now they just have to try to get their foot in that door as well.
What about Google buzz? Ain't that just another try to kick twitter since they got pretty successful. And how about GoogleDoc? Gosh, there are a lot better sites for doc sharing out there than Google.
It almost seems to me Google can't develop anything out of own ideas and every time some other sites or platform really get successful with an idea or concept, Google tries to jump on the same train and copies a the concept.
Hmmm...wasn't it Google who loves to punish websites for dupe content???

Just my 2 cents about Google and all their apps and devs
    Cheers

Fear? They always do! Videos from YouTube usually show up 1st for a lot of keywords now. As for social media, I believe that they are trying to kill Facebook (and replace it with their own).

You guys are trying to say that Google is planning a total domination on it's SERPs. Maybe it's time to change SE's... or not. But whatever Google is trying to plan then that's when we have to change our strategies... yet again.

it does not matter as long as Google provides good services.

Make sense to call Picasa Google Photos, as after buying Picasa the name just seems at odds with other Google products
