Now this is best bit of real advise I've seen in some time. I find if funny, well, perhaps scary is a better word , how one person can say something whether it's based on any factual information or not, it's gets twisted around and repeated till the next thing you know all the "experts" are touting it as the absolute truth.

People don't read the articles - or they don't understand the nuances of what is trying to be explained. Generally, the hype is:

X writes about Y in blog.

Z posts to DP about X saying that Y^2

    Y^2 evolves into Y^3 and Y^4

As the hype curve crashes, Y is proven a "myth" when in fact it is Y^2, Y^3 and Y^4 that are myths. The original message, Y, is lost forever.

In my opinion, I am almost 100% sure that using URL rewriting instep to create more helpful URL's wont drop/affect my website ranking in the eye of Google, so how about a Google penalty though?

They simply have no way of telling... So how can they penalize?

spot on the money, the page name is converted by the server behind the scenes, there would be no way to tell the url was re written

    Hi,

This issue is so serious if Google can do it. Most big sites (dynamic sites) get penalize becoz they all have url rewriting ,

So big problem, can any-one clear that it is only a hoax !!

Think twice to promote your sites

People, Google never said that... Honestly, if they make that big of a change, they'll declare it publicly...

Why panic? I think this is all a big misunderstanding.

People that have normal websites with normal rewrites - be at peace :)
