I am wondering why Google doesn't create something into webmaster tools that allows you to control which sites display your links. Lets say some spam site has your link and you don't want that site to have it. In webmaster tools I would simply click delete on the page that has my link and Google would delete the link from there copy of the page in cache and it wouldn't count for them anymore even though it's on there original site. Google should change there terms, and privacy and notify webmasters that this is going to happen if they have there site on Google if they ever did this. There are sites that aren't even spam sites that I would rather not have my link. The whole communicate thing with them don't work. Maybe this is a stupid idea, and maybe there better ways to do it. I just think that this would tremendously help control the junk sites out there. What do you think?
I think allowing google to edit the version of a site they index would be the thin end of a dangerous wedge.
they already do "edit" sites dont they? when only half a site is indexed and only 30% of that isn't supplemental, they have a pretty different version of your pages and link graph than you do?
I'm not talking about editing sites. I'm talking about taking a link off a sites cache that the verified owner doesn't want there. It's not the property of the site that has the link it's the property of the owner anyhow.
hmmm.... well it's not, is it. A link isn't like copyrighted material. If you start treating them as such, then you'd have to get permission before you ever posted a link anywhere.
A link is the owners property. You can't copyright a link because what's to steal? You can copyright graphics, designs, content so on because it can be stolen and used. Big difference. This idea would only apply to sites that don't have your permission to use your link. I might not give CNN permission to link to an article on my site but I would love if they did, and would not say a thing. This would eliminate spam sites from befitting off your link. There are non spam sites that I might not want my link on either.
The last time I checked, the Internet is free speech. G should not have editorial control over any page. Also, why would you care if a spam site links to yours? G has stated time and again that inbounds can't hurt you. /*tom*/
