Google to buy Opera?

Seems a little far-fetched to me, especially given the money Google is putting into promoting Firefox, but it's been reported in a few places..

I just hope they keep Opera with the same quality if this business sees the daylight...

    Rumore, rumore...

As a blogger in search engine blog I read rumors about Google every day. Nothing to care about.

I think chances are greater for google to come out with a broswer in the future than to buy a existing one.

Either way - google is being forced to take a side in the browser wars - it seems that google is hedging their bets by keeping the option open for their own browser in the future.

When it's all said and done - clearly google is not on MSN's side. :)

I think it would be a smart move. Opera have been concentrating hard on getting a foothold in the mobile marketplace. It makes sense.

Still I don't see the supposed GBrowser, nor the Google OS. I'm getting tired about that.

It could be argued that the GBrowser is Firefox + Google toolbar..

I thought this was an interesting possibility, but really, there is much more potential in Firefox.

What's the business angle of buying Opera for Google other than mobile market?

Opera is a very good browser. Could be better than Firefox if it had extensions

Yes - agree with davilac... I'm using Opera for years now and didn't switch to Firefox for daily usage, just because in my impression Opera is so much more responsive and of course I'm so used to it :)
