i read this article and being a customer, i am praying that google should get this auction, and as a result, we get free Phone and unlimited communication.

I hope Google wins this....It would really be a blow to Verizon, AT&T. Sprint and their ridiculous rates and charges

I hope they win the auction.....verizon is the one that started the whole net neutrality thing....wouldn't it be ironic if they were put out of business because of it?

It's about time they went on the offensive. The telecos have basically threated to put them out of business so it's good that they get to return the favor.

I'm a little sour on Microsoft for just deciding to fold with their "We can pay it, screw everybody else" mentality. It's not really a political matter as much as it is a business mater for these companies. You just can't allow another company to grab you by the balls like that without some sort of retaliation.

Of course. But I have read articles about this and many people said they didn't mind at all for free services. ;)

    This is incredible news....

Each time Google moves into another sector it reminds me of how mad I am that I did not buy Google stock when it was first available for $129.00 a share :(

Shouldn't there be cooldown after Google buys it? Price should drop a bit and good chance to get stock at lower price. Tell me if im wrong :)

After reading that article the other day I suddenly realized why Google's been claiming they are going to branch their advertising into mediums other than the Internet.

I personally don't think they're going to get that bandwidth because it would bring them closer to a monopoly (or anti-trust under the FTC) and quite honestly, I'm not one to be in favour of companies that branch out into too many service offered. My opinion is Google needs to focus on what they have in hand and making money with that. They already posted 1 quarter of missed earnings due to over-hiring, employees taking stock options and infastructure costs. Considering the fact that the stock market has been getting whacked the last few days due to subprime lending, there's not a lot of corporate financing to go around at the moment, especially for overly ambitious projects such as this one.

I thought about this a lot since I posted but I think Google already won....the government agreed that whatever the use, it has to be open to any device....I'm not sure if Google is serious about winning a nice chunk but they already got what they wanted....

But think about this....how about a ubiquitous wireless network with an open handset and I can use skype on it from anywhere.....man....verizon, sprint and att would certainly hate that...
