Do you want to rank for web hosting? Get links from these sites, especially those first ten.

Google has patent’s for algorithms which rerank results based on links within the initial subset, and Google shows you that initial subset.

    is it true?

I think he is saying link to the same sites that they link to. You also have to remember that the sites have been around for years and google uses age of domain name in rank also.

i think he does have a point, IMO i think gaining a link from a site which is popular, ranks well and has been around for a long time would count for more than it would from a site which is 10 days old.

Maybe you should try contacting wikipedia.org or GoDaddy.com or better yet Yahoo's small business and ask them if they are interested in exchanging links with your web hosting site. I bet they won't say no! :D

To Improve your ranking for a keyword the generale rule is to get links from relevant and related websites, Now if you search for the term "web hosting", For google the Most relevant / Trusted / Best result for this "keyword" are the websites that you see in the TOP 10 or Top 20. thats mean that a link from these websites to yours will improve your SEO better than any other link that you may find/buy/submit to on the internet.

    cheers.

It is a very good idea. However, most of the top results won't even return an email request for a link or link exchange.
