Google targeting Authority sites-But for What?

I have an authority site in a very competitive niche-OK the niche is related to aviation industry
The site ranks in the second spot, first is wikipedia and third is FAA website which is .gov
The site is discussed and pointed in all related forums-guys keep exchanging the urls of my site to let know others the latest developments in the industry, there is lot of useful information which is used on daily basis by the visitors

It had a PR4 in the last update
But right now there is no PR update-am i right- But today morning i see the site PR has gone down to PR2-this means the PR has been manually adjusted:eek:

This shows Big G is targeting popular sites and what they want???

I havent sold links on that site (i cant afford to-if nothing my loyal visitors will kick my a**)-There is not a single external link from the homepage

What is it that G wants:rolleyes:-they should let such webmasters known, so that we know where we are going wrong

It's just not links from the homepage. Google is trying to get website to use "nofollow" on all links. They also seem to be targeting links to other sites that have the same owner. Do you link to any of your other sites? From what I've seen, when the manually adjust PR, it doesn't affect rankings.

I do have some links on few pages here and there (those that i got while the website was being optimised)
And no i dont link to any of my other sites from this site
Yes, true this has not affected my ranking and serp results-all seems to be intact

But then google needs to tell the webmasters what they want, atleast for sites which are authority and hold valued customers-not that my visitors will value the pagerank much-it was a psychological factor of growth for me- am i right

Page Rank is used by other webmasters, I don't think the average visitor pays any attention or even knows what it is. Google has devalued PR on many sites, so it's possible that your PR dropped because the sites linking to you dropped.

If it indeed was manually adjusted, and you didn't buy any paid links, then you should add "nofollow" to all your outgoing links. That is really what google is trying to force people to do. I personally don't care about PR as long as it doesn't affect my rankings. I have a couple of "Authority" sites that dropped by 1 in PR with this recent update, but the rankings have actually increased. That's all I am worried about.

I got a PR adjusted yesterday too. From PR4 to PR0 to PR2 right now.
Google is definitely working hard on the weekends :D

It pains....sometimes hard to understand, had genuinely worked hard to reach there and alas there you go because G changed some algo-which they too are unsure of what it will throw up
Well it has not affected the earnings....but then money isn't everything :(

Thats the thing, people work their butts off for their websites, im glad its not affected your earnings, i love working on the internet but its quite fragile too, one change can turn everything upside down, but often we dont know what were expected to do.

If you don't sell links and all of your traffic and serps are still the same then why in the hell would you worry about page rank....You say
Why not measure your growth on your brand awareness and traffic to your site....not some green little bar that has no apparent value to your site...cuz you don't sell links right? ;)

It may be a major change in google's algorithm, my site is not an authority site and I've never
sold any backlinks either. However, my pr went from 4 to 3 I don't care because my search engine
    rankings are still the same.

As i said it is just that psychological factor, maybe as an SEO you are bound to play within whatever google is doing

Well, of course that green bar holds no value for my visitors and i am quite sure 99/100 of them may not be even aware of what it means

The funniest part is i dont sell links on this site-but i have other websites too which are high on rankings but where i do sell links (not mass link selling-few selective link selling)-but got hit in this domain where i dont even do cross linking with my sites for link benefit

Yes, i think we should stop caring about pagerank anymore - hey but will we be able to do that:confused:
