This is very weird, GTalk is said to be kept simple, but on my system it takes over 50MB of memory even when minimised , Yahoo Messenger only 40MB. Isn't this wrong?

It takes 22Mb for me when it's minimized. Perhaps it's increasing if you have a lot of chat windows opened or something?

Well it's just weird... it stayed like that for over an hour and then dropped to 24M, maybe it's a memory leak. Or it has to do with all the spying google does :p.

It's probably a memory leak... or an other explanation could be that GTalk had problems connecting to Google's server to send in the collected user info. An hour later it tried again and sent back 20Mb of info about what you're doing with your computer.

Gtalk tends to be like YM (also a memory greedy program) .... , maybe they have same core.... :)

Its probably because google are busy spying on your computer and trying to track down your passwords and bank details! But then these days, 50MB of RAM, isn't that much... Many computers (such as the one I am on now) have 2GBs and thats just a laptop... Its not that unheard of for desktops to have 4 or even 6GB! *drools over large pile of RAM*
