I installed it, but hardly used it so far. Still can't find need for another messenger (as I don't do voice chatting) is it HIT? Do lot of people use it (dumping yahoo and msn won't be easy).
Since I have so many friends using different IM clients, I use the open source GAIM client. I log into my AOL, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, and Google Talk IM protocols all at once, that way I have only one program to deal with rather than several. A couple of people have contacted me via Google Talk, but only to text (I don't voice chat, either).
Downloaded and installed it the day it got released - but no one to chat with ! Guess people are not ready to move to a new IM that easily. Interface is plain - just like Google Web - but I dont see a lot of options to turn on/off !
Still using Trillian, maybe one day I will use GoogleTalk in the future. For now its like using MSN 1.0, it has nothing new to offer or a userbase to back it up!
anyone knows if the voice and video are better than yahoo's? (not sure if those are even available with GT)
I don't use it much. G! talk is just a lousy attempt to copy MSN messenger...but those are the rules of the trade they say so let's zip my mouth for now.
It's another tool in the toolbox to improve connectivity. I like the alerts and it got past the proxy restrictions at work - which ICQ couldn't. Trillian Pro has a module to incorporate GoogleTalk which is the ideal solution!
I had been using this with iChat with no problems and then randomly it stopped working with an unknown SSL error last week. I double checked my configuration against what google has on their web site, and it is still setup correctly, but it no more worky.
I use it only for voice chat as it is very good like talking on the phone Hope it remains the same even after some time when their servers get busier as more and more users will start using it.
