I have noticed some sites that are loosing their Title and Description in Google's organic listings.. I took a quick peak in their source and everything seems to look fine (they have meta tags, etc) .. Anyone have any idea what this is? I haven't seen this before.. Is it a new type of penalty or just Google being Google? Any discussion on this subject would be nice. Cheers
Thank DoDo, however, 1) this isn't what the thread is talking about and 2) they probably don't believe you because your Photoshop skills don't seem to be the best... I am interested in discussing if people 1) have seen their site's title and descriptions taken away and 2) if they think that it is a penalty or if its just Google re-indexing and shaking things up a bit.. Cheers
In 6-1/2 years I've never had a search engine change my titles. They do sometimes ignore your meta Description and instead use a snippet from the text of your page. That generally happens if your description does not contain the search terms.
Yes, I've seen the same. Snippets can be used in place of meta tags but I've never heard of the titles being mangled.
Same here. Since I have never experienced for website title modified in organic listing without a change made on my side personally. I would give my assumption to you checking this out 1. Do your website source code have "2" title tags in the same page? I have my friend website got this error. However, the results was Google ignored those title tag and show as "Untitled" instead of showing any different title. 2. See if you may modified code and forgot to close title tag properly.
Google sometimes take the details from other site like from DMOZ, ours is one of them showing our site description listed in DMOZ.
Thanks for all of your replies.. however, this isn't a "noob" mistake like having two titles or anything like that.. Also, Google isn't "changing" the title tags.. they just completely got rid of them and replaced it with the domain minus the ".com".. The description is completely gone as well and it has a "similar" option next tot he domain .. So, the main page is not cached.. I found an example of like what is going on, but in this example.. their main page is still cached while the original site I am talking about .. the home page is not cached, however all of the other pages still are.. http://www. google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=kwikmed#hl=en&q=directpharma.net&aq=f&aqi=g2&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=8344659b4dd9a1c0
hi I am also victim of google bcoz the thing happened with my website for more information plz visit the below link where I wrote the my tragic story. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2363462 it is very strange
i too facing this problem for the past 4 days ex. domain: keywordsonline.com original title: keywords online get important keywords by search volume search term: keyword online title shown in google search result: keywords online
Your site does not even land on the first TEN pages of Google with that search term. So, WHY would a different title even matter?
Google not just show the meta data in the snippets but also relevant content/information from the website pages (accordingly to the user search query)
Yes same here, i did not see like this from last 3 years. But if you are facing any problem in it than please look at into your Google web master account, may be you have done some thing there like robot.txt file or some thing else, and Google facing problem while displaying your title ... these are my suggestions Let me know
Its just Google being Google. I have seen a couple of search results in the same situation. Mostly beauty blogs and I think it has something to do with the description itself. Maybe Google thinks that the title and description is not enough or appropriate thus they do the change. Rain
