once a page is placed in google's supplemental results is there anyway that the page can get out of supplemental results when google revisits the page? or are you permanently screwed?

No, not at all. You just have to make the necessary changes/updates to get your site out of the supplemental index. Either more content on the page or more solid links to your pages or less duplicant content between pages.

I;ve gotten into it by my own stupidity - left all the same meta tags on over 300 indexed pages.

So as soon as I changed the meta tags accordingly, and got the proper titles and descriptions on my pages, they came out of supplemental results.

Is there are a reason you're using iframes? I'd try and move to a platform that doesn't use it...at all. I gaurantee you'll see a big boost doing so.

Even though you have 18k products, you need to find an alternative. I'm sure you're probably using a DB to hold all the products. Try and use some of the data with the DB to flesh out more information each product. If you can't, you might have to hand code the new content into the DB, which still wouldn't be that bad. You could hire a team of writers to do all the content writing in 3-6 months, then just have your programmer input the new data. Viola! :)

Usually if one of my pages is in the supplementals it's because I forgot to get some high quality links pointing to it and usually thats all it takes for me to get them back out of the supplementals (a few related high-quality incoming links).

To remove from supplemental try to create a quality unique content and also back links. Submit your page with supplemental result to a directory who accept deep link.
