It seems like many in Japan are finding Google's introduction of Street View just a little too intrusive. As I am currently in Japan now, I can understand their frustration, being an intensely private people. While the web may be all pervasive in some respects, there are some invisible barriers, namely 'cultural' areas that require some delicate navigation in order for it to cross.

Hmm, been following the story and the debate still seems to continue here. I personally find it useful, but then wouldn't want my mugshot showing me going about my business and plastered for all and sundry to see. Despite the concerns, I can't see it getting pulled since they've already okayed it.
