I do believe that Google has stopped taking alt tag into consideration while indexing images. This is based on my personal experience. Has anyone else experienced the same? The entire analysis is written here http://www.pentheblog.com/2008/09/google-images-discards-alt-tags.html I used to have huge amount of traffic from images, now its minute. I believe it is because of this.
May be u r having both the alt tag and filename used in your images. Try only alt tag, you may find the difference
alt tags are still used by Google to show the rankings for the images. It is surely a good SEO factor for consideration.
How will google gonna categorize images without alt descriptions? With only file names? if the alt descriptions are no more indexed then google should close image searching also. I dont wanna see an apple photo while i am looking for an orange...
After reading your blog post, the reason why you are getting low traffic from shareapic is because Google might be penalising those paid to upload image host and hence whatever is upload there is no longer important. Based on this assumption, you came to the conclusion saying that google has stopped taking alt tag into consideration has really nothing got to do with it. It really made me confused here.
it will never stop indexing images with alt tags, as Google Image search is based on Alt tags, so no chance to be stopped.
I too doubt that Google would ever stop using alt tags as a major part of their image search algorithm. I noticed that the images on your actress website have generic numbered filenames. Perhaps this is why you are losing traffic. Also your website has excessive popups.
Exactly my point buddy. There is nothing in those filename which tell about them. But I have used alt tags in majority of them. But still does not get indexed. Is there excessive popups? It was supposed to be 1 per session.
If you have read the article then I have said about a possibility of Paid Image host getting penalized. But does it make sense? ShareAPic decides to share a part of their revenue to their users; does that goes against any google rules? In that sense DP is a revenue sharing forum should have been penalised, right? Earlier title tag in images also had considerable weight. But now google had discarded them. Why the same cannot happen with alt tag? We all know the image alt tag is most probably the most widely abused seo technique. I was just saying about a possibility of this happening?
