I wonder how many people actually have the Google Toolbar installed and use it. I know that it's attached to a lot of auto installs with software from companies like Adobe.

side wiki does seem a little bit of a crazy idea to me, surely if people wanted others to comment on their site they would use a blog format.

Honestly when I first saw this I thought it was about how Google has been using their authority to automatically rank 1st in search engines for terms that really have nothing to do with Google. They look like the "Made For AdSense" sites that Google will ban you for.

    http://www.google.com/search?q=costochondritis

Note the first result. The amount of information on that page is laughable. There is more words in anchor text on that page than actual text and it's all interlinking to other bullshit "Google health" sites with no information. Yet these pages will rank 1st.

Google is shifting more and more towards a complete takeover of all web content and when it happens there won't be a single fucking thing anyone can do about it because it will be too late. I posted about this on DP before and other places and was essentially told "It's Google, they can do whatever they want!" Well, it's NOT alright for them to do whatever they want. Publishers, advertisers, content providers, etc are all the people who make Google existing even possible. Without every small site they treat like shit their overall worth would be zero. Their entire business model relies on US as much as we rely on them.

However, they are quickly shifting towards a model where other sites don't matter because Google scraped their content and presents it as their own while punishing others who do this and ranking their own sites to the top because, hey, were Google so our shit is the best!

Fuck this SideWiki bullshit.. when is Yahoo/Bing going to WAKE THE FUCK UP and do something to make Google stop dominating search? We need competition in the search market.

I tried to read it again. same conclusion, not concise. whole article could be condensed into four or five sentences. ( writing is biased and non-critical e.g. uses logical fallicies.)

Also, this concept is nothing new. similar thing on AOL for the last 10 years.

The only thing I don't like is you can not check what is being posted without installing the toolbar.

Agreed competition is the ONLY way to prevent these monopolies and maintain Free Enterprise. Microsoft and Yahoo are trying to compete and Microsoft is big enough to be a thorn in the side of the search engine giant. You want to get some real nasty dialog going post to a google forum. WOW!

Great read. thanks for pointing it out.
At first, I wasn't quite sure where he was going with it, then once I realized Google were indexing the sidewiki in there SERP's and placing your site next to it (in a Google.com URL) things became clear.

    lol
    rotf..
OMFG you are serious... lol, Well I'll call your bluff. Go on then.. show us :p
You don't necessarily have to install the sidebar. if you had read (and understood) the article, and new how search worked you would realize that as sidewiki becomes more and more popular (through wave?), wikis will start turning up in the SERP's when searching for your site/keywords.

Don't worry, jNorth is going to summarize it for you into 1 easy to understand paragraph.
    Until then, here's a hint... microsoft site:google.com/sidewiki/entry/

    Cheers
    James
