"I have a strong hunch that we're going to be taking a closer look at sites that are just scraper sites, or throwing up a copy of the ODP with no value added. So I wouldn't be surprised to see (for example) sites that are just scraping Google (or possibly other sites) not doing as well over time. " The above is the posting by googleguy in webmasterworld I found that some of our DP members DMOZ clones are wiped out from google cache. I guess, very soon google is going to put hands on directories and Article sites.
Since article sites have same content, google's duplicate filter canl easily identify such sites and possibility of getting banned is high. Just test an article (free to publish) in copyscape.com , you can see almost all the results have identical pages. Whats use in crawling same page or content on several domains ? So i guess the next move will be on article sites.
duplicate content deindexes a page, It doesn't get you banned, If a site gets banned because of duplicate content google index would be half or less of what it is. So its just guessing on your part...
I agree. There's a lot of natural duplicate content, such as product info for resellers of products, press releases, etc. Duplicating DMOZ particularly, as they say, "with no value added", is a different matter entirely... -- Derek
Thank murugan for the info. I would agree with you on article sites, I always had the feeling it would happen thats why when I use articles I acctually rewrite them in my own words and use them just as a source.
Most article redistribution privilieges don't allow you to re-write the articles. You can get in trouble for plaigarism in this situation... -- Derek
Sir that's called copyright violation, the TOS (terms of Service) of most article sites say that you cannot rewrite the article, and neither remove the links (probably you are doing this too). LOL Morgan started a rummor now city2 is confirming it. Is this is going to be as bad as Yahoo banning sites because the use adsence. Stay tunned to channel DP to find out!! News at 11.
Really? I've submitted 3 sites to them, two were approved within a week, and the third is pending (it'll probably take longer because there's no official editor in that particular category). Maybe it's not that they aren't listening to you, but rather a case of your site either not meeting their requirements, or are shady in some way?
What is considered a Dmoz clone? I can see that Google would deindex pure clones, as in one extra content, but what if it is a customized clone. Built arond a website with custom headers, footers and possibly extra internal links. Would Google still think it is a clone?
This has been a long time coming (Months, maybe even a year ago I started to see some weird things in regard to the indexing of DMOZ clones).
