Hi. Recently, my sites have been getting crawled and cached very slowly. In the last 2 weeks, both the PR 5 sites I work on have been cached only once. The cache date on Google shows some really old cached page. Before the recent google update, these sites used to get cached daily. Is this happening with any other site? We did a complete design change for site # 1 below, and the new version has not been crawled and cached. These sites are also regularly updated and the home page is also changed regularly. Also, I'm using Google sitemap for them. If you want to have a look at the sites, please do here. #1 #2
From my experience , Design changes can sandbox, you, I know there will be ready to argue with me over that statement, But I run many sites and have seen in first hand As far as the other site, hmm.....not sure I have many new sites being cached all the time........
Indexing has hit rock bottom at my site, I have a good PR with 46K pages already indexed. The worst mistake I made was signing up for gotlinks, gee that did hurt my site. Nervertheless, I've removed my site from there and things are likely to get better in the next G update.
I'm seeing the same thing Rosie. Slow indexing / crawling and caching. Google has slowed down quite a bit. To make a comparison, I get about 20 slurp hits for every one google bot hit. I have no idea why.
hmm.. I know drastic design changes can hurt a site, but we've done that before also. It didn't hurt at all. Basically, we just changed the CSS a bit, not much changes in the content itself and other SEO stuff. I've seen a few big sites that completely messed up their rankings by changing the extension of their pages (for e.g. from .html to .php) Ofcourse, these drastic changes can seriously hurt your rankings as it messes up all the old indexed pages you had of your site. Also, such changes cause problems if other prople have bookmarked your site or linked to some internal pages. Hi Endurer, your site must be a really big site, with 46k pages indexed. And if it has a PR more than 5 (which i'm sure you must), G should be indexing your site daily ! Linking to bad neighbourhood sites can hurt a lot, especially if you use a link exchange programme like gotlinks. Hope it gets better soon. Maybe this has to do with the recent PR and Links update and maybe a SERPs update going on now, which could be the reason for slow indexing / crawling
