Google SketchUp (free) beta is available from
    http://sketchup.google.com/index.html

I did a quick search here but did not see anyone post about it, only that google brought them a couple of months ago, not that it was available for download.

I just don't see why they are releasing something that has nothing to do with their mission. Are they trying to get into more areas other than search?

Google Calander, Google Earth, Writely etc all are linked in some way to organising the worlds information and making it useful, but a 3D modelling programme? A nice programme I think but I don't see where they are going with it.

    The page does say -

View your modeled world in... Google Earth

Perhaps with a better resolution of pictures in GE, they could integrate the virtual model produced in SketchUp so that architects etc can see how it would look.

I agree though with SHT about it seemingly being outside Google's main focus. Or maybe we are all blind to the exciting possibilities.
