Glad to see the sitemap FAQ is still helping people, I might be making a few more additions in the future if a moderator ever replies me!
Please give me some tips how to put up site map? i already create sitemap.xml page but don't know where to upload the page and how to link the pages so that any search engine may crawl the respective page
dear friends I don't know am I right or wrong? I have a blogger blog which I used to add sitemaps through google webmasters tool with the extension rss.xml or atom.xml or feeds/posts/default I found it after sometimes ok but for blogsome blog this failed with me I don't know the extension acceptable by google as it shows errors I wish if anybody could help me by telling me the accepted extension
This may be a silly question, but if you add a page or two or change something else does the site map need to be redone and or resubmitted to Google? I've added a web tools page. I have from time to time added to the tools linked there (new pages and just new links for some). Do I need to redo my sitemap, and resubmit to Google? Funny, but I always thought sitemaps were a bit old school and haven't paid much attention to them, but knowing the importance to Google in doing an XML file I'm hopping on it to create one! THANK YOU FOR THIS VALUABLE RESOURCE. I'm still a newbie (GoogleRank 2 for the moment) and wondering how I got that way and how I can get an even higher ranking. I know that I must build interesting content, content, content, content; and get lots of relevant backlinks, but with such a small Web site I hadn't considered an XML sitemap. Cool. Thanks again. -- M.C.
If you have some limit problems with online free sitemap builders, take a look at mine at http://www.webrickco.com/buildsitemap.php. It's kind of slow, but will do the work for 10000 links. Give me some feedback on it! thx.
Actually the best resource for the robots.txt file is robotstxt.org there you can make it out how it wors...there are plenty of examples on how it works ...
Yes, you should update your sitemap to reflect any changes. As for re-submitting it, you don't have to. Google will periodically check the sitemap for changes.
In my opinion GSITECRAWLER is the best free tool for generating google sitemap for unlimited URLs. I am happy with that Thanks
Thank. Is any sites need a sitemap? I heard some people say that if you use Vbulletin, there no need to have a sitemap. Is this true?
Dear Sandecki, I feel these FAQs are really nice. But it would have been really great if you can share how to structure your sitemap.xml for better crawl rate or priority settings or something that is an IP to make sure xml sitemap really help your website quickly and ethically! I hope my question does make sense!
Best way to create a sitemap is to get any of the free website that will generate a good xml sitemap for google search.
Hi, great post there. I also want to ask another question. How often should we resubmit sitemap? Every time we add another link?
@XStryder, yes you can resubmit your sitemap every time you add a page to your site = add a link to your site map. But Google automatically rereads your sitemap regularly, so you don't need to do this... It depends how much spare time you have The important thing is to update your site map every time you add a page to your site!
Is that even necessary? Google crawls your site; so, as long as your page can be reached through normal links, Google would find it anyway, wouldn't it?
