Thanks for the info people. Creating a Sitemap is much more straight forward than I thought. Not sure what the benefit is of placing a link to the site map on the homepage though?

I also have a question I was wondering if anyone could help with. I'm using Dreamweaver to create my site but would you suggest I install WordPress as well to improve my keyword search results or does it not really matter too much?

When i submit my website sitemap in google webmaster, "Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead" - this message will appear. Please help me give some suggestions.

 

I just used http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.asp to generate my sitemap for my blog at www.prosperityinprogress.com. It took a while for it to do it but it did work.

It took me awhile to figure out how to upload the sitemap.xml file to my website. I'm using dreamhost.com and luckily they have a webftp program. Once I figured out how that works, I got my sitemap uploaded, moved it to the parent directory and submitted it to Google through its webmaster tools interface.

Google said that it worked, so now I just have to wait for it to do it's thing. This thread helped immensely - thanks guys!

 

Its all about how to generate, create and add sitemap on the site. But after generating sitemap is there any tool to crawl just your sitemap urls?. Strange...! But the answer is yes . You can try many online tools to create sitemap for your website and download the XML version there and upload it to the root direct in the FTP. Here is the tool I usually use for sitemap work and recommend this to all as it can give you sitemap for 500+ pages and also gives all versions like HTML, XML and txt etc.

I have sub domain and i am not able create an site map for that page and my other website pages have are generating sitemap but sub domain is not generating.

I use wordpress and and the SEO plugin i use is YOAST which comes with an inbuilt sitemap maker that auto updates as you add pages or posts .. Pretty handy ..
