Google Site Search, Poor Results

I tried using the Google Site Search feature and it sucked. The results sometimes came up empty and other times were way off. I get a more complete and accurate search of my site of I go straight to Google and type in:

    search term site:www.mysite.com

Is there a trick to using Google's Site Search?

Is the site new? Sometimes I've noticed that their results are delayed on site search over the regular Google results. I'm just guessing at possible reasons.

Do you want to post the URL?

No the site isn't new and I'd rather not post the link ;) .

I thought the Google results and Google Site Search results would be the same. Does Google store them differently?

I've never had a problem with Google site search -- you may have an error in the implementation on your site, which is why I requested the URL.

I copied and pasted the code straight from the Google code box.

okay but where is it pasted? check surrounding code - tables, divs, forms, etc.

Dude, the code is correct. I've tried searching again from the search results page and still nothing. I've tried placing the code on a page by itself, nada.

OK, no offense intended. Without looking at the page, I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. It works fine for me on my site.

Yeah I know ;) . I was just saying all the things I have already tried. Maybe I need to resubmit to Google...

I just tried the Free Search by Google and it works perfectly. I don't know why the AdSense Site Search sucks...

Ohhhh.... I didn't realize you were talking about the AdSense search. I tried that too... it worked okay for me but I hated the output... you could barely see my pages for the ads... I dumped it after about 10 minutes.

    Yeah I meant AdSense Site Search, I should've clarified ;) .

I still wonder though why the results are vastly different...

I don't know. To be honest, the search results page looked so damn spammy and cheap I didn't do much exploring. I just dumped the code and reloaded the regular Google site search.

If they come up empty, look at the hidden sitesearch field in your code or use as_sitesearch instead of sitesearch..or mybe your pages are not indexed by google yet. there cold be many reasons...
