    Does google lifts the ban on a website after a period of time. I know a big indiantravelportal which was banned for almost 2 years and now suddenly it has a PR of 2.

    Man and woman having their site reinstalled in GoogleAt the Search Engine Strategies conference in Stockholm, Shari Thurow of Grantastic Designs gave some sound advice on how to get relisted by Google (or any other serious search engine):

    * First, clean up your act.
    * Then send Google a very polite email where you acknowledge and describe what you (or your search engine marketing firm) has done.
    * Tell Google that you have read their guidelines and that you will never do anything like this again.
    * If you hired an search engine marking firm that spammed on your behalf, state the firm's name and contact information.
    * Include full contact information.

    This is what Danny Sullivan and others call the "Kiss Up Letter". Indeed, do apologize and make no excuses.

    Google will often reply to such polite requests and you may find some of your pages back in the index within a couple of weeks. However, it can take months before the search engine has spidered your whole site again.

    Interesting answer. However a website gets bans mostly on the basis of clone or spamming, but these days i have seen many sites having similar domain and mirror content still both having a good PR. For example there can be sites like seoindiadotcom
    and seo-indiadotcom.

    Now both the sites are mirror sites and belongs to a similar company but only difference in the domain is a "-" and many of these sites are still not banned. Whats the reason there? Any ideas guys......

    Site having two or more domains pointing to the same index page is considered as duplicate content as for as I know. It’s better to use 301 redirect to avoid duplicate content penalty

    You are not banned for having duplicate content, you are banned for spamming, or rather banned when you get CAUGHT SPAMMING :D Millions of people break the law every day, millions of people drive faster than the law permits. What you are saying is exactly the same as asking how come these drivers were not fined. The simple answer is they were not caught.

    Anyhow, google generally 'filters' duplicate pages at the search stage, rather than in its index. So run a search on one of the keywords, and see if both sites show up in the SERP's. My guess is that only one of them will show, the other will be filtered. There is in fact a black hat technique to get your competitors removed from the SERP's that involves doing just that.

    I don't know why people spam to begin with. Spam does not help anyone, and it makes it harder to rank with all of the new filthers.
