Of course youtube won't be shut down. It's a huge brand like Coca cola and the right owner is Google since they have a lot of leverage and they can afford to experiment.

Youtube is not closing. Thats a fact. If you think otherwise you know very little about the industry.

NO, that's just your faulty eyes. Maybe you should get them checked out at the psychiatrist

Youtube will roll on and on (and on); lets just call it a lossleader ....

We've seen the video ads lately, and movies trailers(official), isn't this enough to cover the costs?

Perhaps youtube needs the help of cpalead.com.lolz. Imagine that !

Honestly Google earns like 20X that amount with PPC.

We all know google is not poor.

In fact google holds #2 position next to Cocacola
for the #1 most recognized "brand name" in the world.

It would be a shame to see youtube's passing. Thats for sure!

Hard to image the size of the files they allow someone to upload, how many they let one have, how do they really pay for all the storage space and bandwidth. They must be adding more storage space all day long non stop. I can't see it going away anytime soon, but if they don't at least break even on it either then just how long are they willing to take a loss.

This is false news. Recent news shows that youtube maybe spending nothing on bandwidth costs.

"How much is YouTube paying for the bandwidth to deliver its 1 billion page views per day? Credit Suisse says $470 million a year. RampRate says $174 million. Google says “less than you think.” Now Wired.com asserts that YouTube’s bandwidth bill is zero, citing an analysis by Arbor Networks. The gist of the report is that YouTube has slashed its video delivery costs through the use of peering relationships and its in-house GoogleNet connecting its data centers (assembled through the company’s oft-reported purchases of dark fiber). "

Here is the source/article where I got the above info from http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2009/10/19/youtubes-bandwidth-cheap-but-not-free/

micropayments. Just charge a penny to watch a video = you bring in $750M a year. Anyone can afford a penny.

Problem is people dont like to pay for anything they're used to getting for free.
