I just checked a keyword using both Chrome and Firefox. In Chrome my site shows #3 Firefox #5 IE #3 Why the difference? Is this common?
browser shouldnt make a difference. possible that they pulled the results from different data centers.
There are few theories going on for this kind of SERP changes: 1. Google is too much into user preferences, so clear cookies in all your browsers and check again 2. If you are checking google.com from a specific country, say from India, then also there might be some changes in the SERP results 3. May be just that you checked the SERPs when google was rearranging the SERPs Hope it helps.
yes, exactly, google now customize your search results based on your searching history, if you are in different country, results are different either.
Yeah, you just need to clear your cookies. If you log in, you can stop Google from storing your web history, which will also stop them from modifying your results. You can find that under the search settings option under your name when logged in.
Had exactly the same problem, even on different PC's it was showing different results, I will have to try this
Actually you need not to clear cookie, at the bottom-right of google search bar, you can find "View customizations", click it and in the new page you can see "If you're curious, you can see what a search for yahoo backlinks looks like without these improvements.", click and the search results will be without customization. However, the search results are still different slightly in different countries
One thing that you can do in either Chrome or FFox browser is to open up a new 'private browsing session'; this saves you having to go through the trouble of clicking through your settings and clearing the cache. Chrome: Shift + Cmd + N FFox: Shift + Cmd + P
I tested on 3 bowsers - Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and found no different in search results amonth them. I think the history and personalized might be involved of this case. 1. If you logged in some of Google services such as Gmail, Youtube then the results may come from your personalized setting 2. If you don't change the setting, Google will remember your history search and show the most you preferred.
